The Food Twist Meme

I was thinking tonight at supper that we need a cooking meme. Here’s how it works. You think of, and post the recipe for a food item that you prepare just a little bit differently than everyone else does. The catch is that you italicise (or otherwise call out) your formerly secret ingredient / recipe / twist for all to enjoy. It doesn’t have to be a fancy food item, or a long recipe… just something that others may not have thought of.

Here’s a couple to get you started:

Sweet Daddy’s Spicy Salad Sauce
Blend equal parts olive oil and balsamic vinegar, a small blob of mustard to help them mix, a dash each of salt and pepper and then spice it with cayenne pepper to jazz it up.

Awesome Asian Omelette
In south-east asia they add fish sauce and sugar to beaten eggs to make great tasting omelettes. Try it with coarsely chopped onion and bean sprouts as the toppings. (Optionally, you can make this one spicy as well… add Thai bird peppers.)

Now hop to it. I am licking my lips in anticipation.

Mr. Noodles

Boil some water. Add the noodles. After three minutes sprinkle in the MSG package. Splash in a generous amount of Frank's Hot Sauce. Enjoy!

Grrr ...

It didn't italicize the 'Frank's Hot Sauce'. Hrm.

Sloppy Jen's

Sloppy Joes, but with *pinto and kidney beans* instead of the ground beef. Still rocks on some crusty buns.

Oops

Guess that title should have been Sloppy Jen's Sloppy Jens

peanut butter sandwich with a twist

Murray Wight's secret peanut butter treat. Take 2 fresh slices of whole wheat bread. Slather peanut butter generously on one slice. Spread *mayonnaise* on the other slice. (Low fat is fine). This sounds really wierd to most people I have met, but it is actually delicious and the peanut butter doesn't stick to the roof of your mouth.

UPDATE!

Colin informed me tonight that he actually tried my Mr. Noodles recipe (which was intended to be more of a joke than anything because ... it's Mr. Noodles!). Distressingly, I didn't specify that it has to be *beef* Mr. Noodles, and I don't really recommend using any hot sauce other than Frank's RedHot. Colin used Chicken Mr. Noodles with some substandard hot sauce.

dressing

Colin, I got to try your salad dressing tonight. :) I made salad, and looked in the fridge, and said 'darn, there's no dressing.' And then I thought, where did I read a recipe recently for salad dressing?

So I tried it, and I didn't quite get it quite right - I don't think enough cayenne peppers. But it was still tasty! :)

lazy person's food

I always prepare ahead - well, cooked stuff anyway. I usually buy chicken breasts, marinate them overnight in either teriaki sauce, or something spicy, with a generous amount of chili pepper flakes, then cook them up, peppers and all, cut them into cubes and freeze them.
I eat salads a lot of the time, and so mix the chicken into the salads. I usually buy a variety of veggies for the salads, but always make sure that there are hot peppers in it. Dressing is up to the person eating the salad, but a blue cheese dressing is, for me, the best.

Next time, I'm going to try your Spicy Salad Sauce.

Have tasted peanut butter and mayo now

Kringen served us up some peanut butter and mayo (or perhaps it was Miracle Whip) sandwiches last night, and I have to report that they were tangy and good! I'm glad she made them for us because I was feeling a bit uncertain about making one myself.

mr noodles

a better way to make mr noodles is you add carrots and celery then let them boil until they're soft add the noodles then add the flavour pack then add onion salt, chili powder, curry powder.boil until the noodles are soft (not too soft ) this only works with chicken, vegetable and beef.

mr noodles

I boil frozen corn and chopped carrots first, then add the noodles. Then I put in chopped up pieces of last nights dinner-whatever it is. That always makes it more fun. Yesterday I sliced chicken and put it in the pot in the end. Today I put in potatoes. I usually do this with vegetable or oriental.
