George W. Bush

As governor of Texas Bush executed 152.

Today, Bush says: “… it is always wise to err on the side of life”.

He made the comment as he passed a law that alters the US court system to allow recourse to federal courts when “an incapacitated person, or a next friend of such person, has exhausted all State remedies.” This is a fundamental shift in US law.

What an asshole.

	Agreed. But at least this morning, the Florida supreme court judge told her family that they effectively have no case and no basis for further action. There is some interesting discussion going on at Fark, but you have to kind of weed through the posts. The next 3 years really can't go fast enough. at 2005-3-22 09:15 by alia

	In sha' Allah Yeah... that is interesting. Particularly interesting is the comparison of the CT scans halfway down the page. The Vatican has just weighed on this one. Of course their predictable position says "how can we humans think to pull the plug... death is God's province." The problem with that argument is that there's an equivalent argument that says "who are we to feed this woman with machines, if her time has come it is God's will.' at 2005-3-22 10:02 by cmh

This guy has some good writing on the subject, and a collection of links to related stories, including the cases of Hudson and Nikolozous, which are both pretty scary. It refers to something called the 'Futile Care' law that Bush Jr signed into law while he was governor. But I guess he's had a change of heart since then and has decided that now that he's president, life is worth protecting at any cost. I'm sure Sun Hudson's mother will be grateful to know that he has a new outlook.

This whole situation gives me the creeps. And makes me want to write a living will, post-haste. (Although I don't think this level of crazy could happen in Canada.)
