Last night we went out with our friends Jeff and Buffy to Atelier, one of the hottest new restaurants in town. We were celebrating events for both Jen and Jeff, which seemed like a good opportunity to splurge on the meal. This dish, Californication, was seared tuna with a roasted red pepper gel and avocado puree, wasabi peas, julienne of carrot and red pepper, smoked bacon and shoots (I think pea). It was as good as it sounds. Almost all the dishes (14, counting the barbecue bread served with popcorn butter) worked for me, and I enjoyed the evening tremendously.

From a Citizen review: "Ensconced in his stainless-steel 'anti-kitchen' with no gas burners or oven in sight, chef Marc Lepine, 32, deftly brandishes tweezers to assemble his latest concoction with the precision of a surgeon… Regarded by many as Ottawa's cutting-edge gastronomic wunderkind, Mr. Lepine is fixated on manipulating tastes and textures in ways that range from merely ingenious to outrageously surreal."
